special

To our valued Hazleton City Authority customers, We hope this message finds you healthy and safe. At the HCA we are always appreciative of your business and the opportunity to serve your water and garbage removal needs - even more so during challenging times like this. As the current situation with Covid-19 unfolds, we believe that communication is even more important. We want to assure you that we will continue to meet your water needs with the quality product that you have come to expect from us. As always, your water is treated and safe to drink. There is no need to purchase bottled water in anticipation of any possible shortage as our plant will provide water as usual. EPA encourages the continued use of tap water, as COVID-19 has not been detected in drinking water supplies. EPA has established regulations with treatment requirements for public water systems that prevent waterborne pathogens such as viruses from contaminating drinking water. COVID-19 is a type of virus that is particularly susceptible to disinfection and standard treatment and disinfectant processes are expected to be effective. “Due to the quality of our source water and treatment facilities, chlorine disinfection, and chlorine testing to ensure a chlorine residual in the distribution system, there is no concern about coronavirus being transmitted through our public water system. Internally we have taken the appropriate action to safeguard our employees and we are recommending that everyone adhere to guidelines and updates from the World Health Organization and CDC. We want you to know what preventive measures we have implemented to minimize the spread of the illness and will be following all guidelines to ensure a safe and clean working environment for our staff. Effective immediately our main office at 400 East Arthur Gardner Highway will be closed until further notice for the acceptance of payments to limit the possible spread of COV-19, commonly known as the coronavirus. Our staff will continue to work inside so if you have any concerns please feel free to call us at 570-454-2401. Customers may make payments by mail or on-line at www.hcawater.org. Click on the link “Pay your bill.” Automatic bank withdrawal forms will also be available to download from our website or picked up at the HCA entrance. (This registration may not take effect for up to 1-2 billing cycles.) Also, customers may leave check payments in the drop-off box in the office vestibule (No cash payments taken) Customers with cash payments may make a payment at the Landmark Bank Drive-thru located at 383 South Poplar Street in Hazleton. Customers that need to sign up for new water service must view instructions posted in the office vestibule, complete an application, and deposit copies of their settlement sheet along with a $35.00 check in the container provided. IF you need to talk to a Customer Service Representative for additional information or other matters, call 570-454-2401. Trash removal will continue on its normal schedule. We strongly encourage our customers to use trash containers to hold your garbage bags during the week so trash, which could possibly contain the virus or other pathogens, is not littered throughout the community by animals or the wind. Our garbage containers remain available for purchase. Please call 570-454-2401 to arrange for home delivery of a container should you desire to purchase one from the HCA. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds helps prevent the spread of COVID-19. WE strongly encourage our customers to follow this guideline for the safety of yourself, your family, and the community. We are here to serve your needs. Don’t hesitate to contact us by phone or email
