Hazleton City Authority awarded a multi-year garbage removal contract that is nearly $1.2 million cheaper than its previous agreement and puts the authority in a position to hold the line on fees for a number of years, its board chairman said. The authority board recently voted 5-0 in Dec. 2014 to award a 3¼-year trash removal contract to Kreitzer Sanitation, Orwigsburg. Kreitzer’s bid of $13.25 per unit was the lowest of three firms that submitted trash removal estimates.
The new contract began Jan. 2, 2015, and the term was structured to ensure that the contract aligns with HCA’s fiscal year, which runs through March 31, authority board Chairman John Keegan said. Kreitzer outbid two competing firms.
